This portal was set-up in the framework of the European research project WHIPPLE´S DISEASE (QLG1-CT-2002-01049) funded since November 2002 until October 2006 by the European Commission.

Within this project, scientists from five European countries – Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, and Italy - as well as external experts from Switzerland, Germany and the US are working together to improve the understanding of the interaction between humans, agents and the surrounding factors concerning Whipple’s Disease.

The portal aims at the improvement of the possibilities to diagnose and treat Whipple’s Disease through specific information handling. It is targeted at all those, who want to learn more about the disease. In order to provide target-group specific information, it is divided into three areas:

• pages offering information and advice to WD-patients, their relatives and friends;
• pages dedicated to professionals concerned with the disease (physicians, scientists);
• pages providing information on the European research project, its participants and specific objectives.
